How To Dunk A Basketball

It is the most celebrated shot in basketball. It is the dream of most averageplayers and it is an in-the-face “statement” that a good player makes to the other team. It is the slam dunk. We all know WHAT it is, and most of us WISH we could do it. But how do you dunk a basketball?

Before We Start

Before an average person should start thinking about dunking, he needs to take an inventory and be realistic. How tall a person is and his athletic abilities are the two main factors that determine from the beginning if he will ever be able to dunk. Not to say it isn’t possible, but there are very few 5-6 players that will ever be able to jump high enough to dunk. In fact, an average sized person will have to have above-average jumping ability in order to be able to dunk. Be realistic in your goals. At the same time, don’t limit yourself before you even get started. Many people have made amazing increases in their jumping ability. It will take hard work, but it will be worth it.

Things you should evaluate before you start:

1.) Is your height a problem? You can’t change this. You CAN improve your vertical leap, but you still may never be able to dunk. But, that is alright! You should develop other areas of your game.

2.) Are you overweight? By carrying more weight than you should, you are limiting your jumping ability.

3.) What are your athletic abilities? Some people are just gifted at being able to jump. You can develop it as well, but understand where you are starting. Measure your vertical leap before you begin. This will show how you are progressing.

4.) What kind of shape are you in? Jumping uses muscles from the entire body. Having just strong legs alone is not enough.

Let’s Get Started

Begin by making sure you are in the best overall shape you can be. This includes every area of your body as well as your legs. To ensure you can reach your ultimate jumping potential, you need to be in good shape overall. You use your entire body while performing a jump, so it stands to reason that your entire body should be in shape. While this part of the process isn’t glamorous, it needs to be done. A solid foundation is necessary for the best results. Start with this and you will be rewarded down the road.

Jump Experts – You Can Jump Higher

While other programs are the ideas/methods of one person on which exercises, training, diet, etc. can best increase your vertical jumping ability, Jump Experts takes a much different approach. While the website states that there are instructions from “13″ experts, there are actually EIGHTEEN of the top “vertical jump” experts in the world that played a part in this project. These are put together into one product that definitely covers training to improve your vertical jump from every direction possible. You will learn about a variety of exercies like sprints, squats, stair running, “band” exercises, kettle balls, and others. You will also learn about specific techniques, warming up, warming down, muscle function, and even some “technical” aspects involved in jumping.

Virgil Aponte is the “author” of the book. He is the mastermind of the idea of gathering information from many different sources, contacted all of them and compiled their contributions into a great product! The principles taught in this material have been used by hundreds (if not thousands) of the top athletes in the world – professional players in the NBA, WNBA, NFL, MLB, & MLS; NCAA players; and Olympic athletes from many countries.

This is a 8 week program originally designed to maximize an athlete’s jumping ability for basketball. But, the information included is applicable to any sport where jumping is an advantage (football, soccer, volleyball, etc.)

Each expert provides their unique take on the subject including body part functions, recommended exercises, what TO do and what NOT TO do, specific applications, etc. Because of this, Jump Experts may be the most broad and comprehensive collection of instruction material on increasing your vertical jump. As a matter of fact, two of the contributors to this collection are also the authors of their own products.

As a bonus for purchasing The Jump Experts, you will also get over three hours of exclusive interviews with the contributors to this program. There are also an additional five books included that cover additional health, diet, stretching, and exercise topics. Included as a special bonus are all future updates that Virgil ever puts out for this program!

This program provides all the information you will need to improve your vertical jump quickly!

To see how it compares, check out this Vertical Jump Program Review.

The Jump Manual – Jump 10 Inches Higher

The Jump Manual takes a scientific approach to “vertical explosion” training. Recent studies have shown that effectively training each aspect of the vertical jump is the only way to maximize your vertical jump explosion.

According to the author there are nine different aspects to work on by which you may improve your vertical explosion as well as your quickness. Would your choice be to target some of these–or all nine? This may sound like a silly question, but quite often most programs only target one or two of these aspects. The Jump Manual is the only product to target all of the aspects of vertical jump explosion and quickness. Targeting each separate facet allows for results to be achieved more quickly. The cumulative effect of training all of the aspects produces far superior results.

With “The Jump Manual”, you will learn the exercises used to increase your jumping ability. As well, you will also learn how this combination of exercise, proper form, diet, and additional areas will COMPOUND the effect of only doing exercises to give you the largest increases in your vertical jump.

How fast will I see results?

Of course results depend on many independent circumstances and factors. Many athletes report gains of about 1 inch per week. Gains will vary from person to person.

It’s important to maintain reasonable expectations for this program. Results usually come when you least expect them, but when you follow correct principles, they WILL come. Often gains of 1 inch per week are reported.  The fastest results usually come as you first start and you begin to activate muscles and techniques that you have never used before.  This beginning period will eventually settle in to a steady climb of improved explosion and quickness.

The Jump Manual promises that you will gain 10 inches in your vertical jump in just 12 weeks or you will get a complete refund. They state that there has NEVER been one person that has gone through the 12 week program that has not been satisfied. THAT IS 100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION! They must be getting the results that they are promising. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT NOW! In just a few short weeks you could have the vertical jump you have always wanted!

Basic Skills Needed For Volleyball

The worst situation that a volleyball team could be in is to show up at a game without knowing the skills they needed to able to be competitive.  How to hit, being in the proper position, physical conditioning, and a player’s ability to jump can help to win the game as well as gain confidence for the game.  Getting back to the basics for volleyball can position you to gain the skills necessary for victory.

General Playing Skills That Should Be Developed

1.  Serving.  This is what always starts the game and is a necessary skill.  There are two basic types of serves.  One is overhand; where the player throws the ball in the air first, then hits it on the way down.  The other being the underhand serve, where the server cradles the ball in one hand and swings the other arm underneath the ball to hit it. Once the one of these basic serves is mastered, a player can the practice variations of either one of these.

2.  Pass or reception.  This is usually set up by a player called a “setter”.  It is used in order to take the ball and set the ball up to the another player on your own team.  Your teammates will then be able to put the ball to the other side in a manner to win the point.

3.  Tip.  A tip is a method to fool the opponent into thinking that the ball is going further than it will.  The player will hit the ball lightly, making it barely go over the net but not too far into the opponent’s area so that they can’t hit it back.

4.  Dig.  This is a player’s ability to save the ball from hitting the court after it has been spiked by an apponent. A player may often dive underneath the ball and extend his/her arms to make the save.

5.  Rebound.  This happens when the ball is blocked, making the players “rebound”, or take the ball back.

Physical Skills That Should Be Developed

1. Quickness.  People frequently lump being fast and quickness together. A volleyball player does not require all out speed, but being able to react quickly is a big plus.

2. Vertical Jump. All things being equal, a volleyball player that can jump higher than an opponent has a great advantage. Being able to jump up to hit a ball before your opponent does can help to win many points.

Developing the physical skills often leads to the improvement of the playing skills. Increasing a player’s quickness will help them respond more quickly and let them get to more “saves”. A player that can jump higher will be able to tip and spike the ball over the opposition easier. And the development of both sets of skills work together to give the player more confidence in his or her game.

How To Jump Higher

ANYONE can increase their vertical jump and learn how to jump higher!

The key is learning the role your body type plays. Age, gender, race e.t.c., do not play as important a role. You need to do an assessment of your body’s individual response to certain exercise routines, as this changes from person to person. Giving you a list of exercises just doesn’t cut it if you want to really jump higher…you NEED a cycle based on exercises for your given body type, concentrating on your weaknesses. This group of exercises should cycle from Strength to Explosiveness to Plyometrics.

Basic Steps To Get Started

1. Assess your current strength and your level of experience with previous types of training. The most effective way to experience gains is to construct a totally new strength foundation. Then start utilizing an explosion phase. This will result in even more inches.

2. Practice Lifts. Entire body conditioning is a key factor for such an athlete and there is no better exercise than the full back squat. This provides you with progressive increases on spinal loading, which, in turn, stabilizes you under tension, and also improves stretch-response of hip muscles and hamstrings.

3. The squat should be the main exercise of your lower body workouts. 6-8 decent lifts gets the best strength developments and vertical carryover. On the days of your upper body workouts, the philosophy is the same, with the central exercises being bench press, overhead press variations, pull-ups and dips. Remember to work often overlooked muscles at the end of the workout – muscles such as hip flexors, the shins , transverse abdominals e.t.c.

4. Ensure that you use a lifting technique in a safe and effective manner. Undergo 3-5 week strength phases for upper and lower body. Done correctly, visible gains of 5+% on each lift should be seen weekly. Following this, you will be able to see how your jump is bound to increase.

5. Correctly utilize explosive and plyometric training as well as your strength training. These are your “field workouts” and are completed pre-weights. E.g., on Day 1 you begin by using a series of tempo runs, sprints and low-intensity plyos (after the proper warm-up of course). By the time Phase 3 comes around, this will have gradually lessened to shorter tempo runs, overspeed (downhill) sprints and high-intensity plyos.

6. Concentration on the heavier weights will decrease as you progress through the phases.

7. Visualization is important – imagine yourself exploding upwards. Visualize yourself with large leg muscles that are coiled like springs, ready to propel you higher. Say to yourself “I feel myself getting more powerful and much lighter.” Then jump again. You should notice a marked increase in your vertical jump. (Sports psychologists have long recognized the effectiveness of “mental practice” in increasing athletic performance.)

Wedding Day Photography Planning

When most couples plan their wedding day they take a lot of things into consideration.  They think about coordinating the date for vacation times.  Or they coordinate the day on what is best maybe for family to make it into town.  Or they plan it based upon maybe available venues, like the church or the restaurant.

But one of the biggest things couples fail to plan for is the photographer. Don’t think this is something small.  And I am not just saying it because I am a wedding photographer

No planning the wedding day with the wedding photographer in mind could mean all the difference in the world. Especially when you realize that the photos are what are going to last a lifetime.

What are the things to think about when making plans with the photographer in mind.  The time and the date.

Let’s begin talking about time.  How many people do you think would want their photographer to rush taking the photos? I am pretty confident most couples will not agree to that.

Well without even thinking about your photographer, a lot of times couples will do just that. The couple will end up rushing the photographer to get all the shots in.

How so you say?  Well a lot of times, the couple will schedule the ceremony for let’s say 1-2 pm. With the reception beginning at 2:30. How many photos can the photographer really take with only half an hour to work with?  Not many.

Even worse, let’s say he does take all the shots? Do you think they are going to take good quality shots when they are rushed?  Of course not.

So plan the times for the wedding and the reception with enough space in between to take all the photos.

The second thing to think about when doing your planning is to keep the photographer’s availability in mind.

Most probably don’t realize this, but most good photographers will be booked months in advance.  And if you are dealing with let’s say a large photography company, they may have several photographers.

Well planning your wedding without considering your photographer’s availability could turn into a nightmare.  Because if you book that special day and don’t make sure that the actual photographer will be available, when your wedding day comes you might be shocked to find someone totally different.

This scenario happens when you are dealing with a big company. You may not even realize that they have a staff of photographers and if the photographer you liked is booked, unless you ask, they might not tell you.  When your wedding day comes, they might just outsource their work or a second rate photographer might show up.

Be prepared that you don’t let something like this happen.  Planning your wedding day is wonderful. Make sure that your plan has the wedding photographer in mind as well.
